As KAFC/CARE enters its 12th year of advocacy and education regarding the “comfort women” issue, we welcome your support at the annual fundraising gala on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Garden Suite Hotel in Los Angeles.
Our guest of honor and keynote speaker will be former Congressman Mike Honda, who sponsored the passage of House Revolution 121, which urged the Japanese government to accept responsibility for their wartime institution of sexual slavery. We will also announce winners and finalists among the high school and college students who submit entries to our video contest.
In the past year, we have created and distributed an education resource guide for California public high school teachers, create a one-stop solution educational website, held memorials for the survivors who passed away, provided lectures and workshops for students and teachers, and worked in partnership with organizations who focus on the “comfort women” issue both in the US and overseas. We are also part of the leadership of SWJC, the San Francisco-based organization responsible for the “Comfort Women” column of strength in St. Mary’s Square Park.
However, we continue to face rising opposition, against the revisionist elements pushing the “History War” in Japan. Today, there are only around 20 registered survivors in Korea, and 18 known Chinese survivors alive: a fact which underscores the need for educating younger generations and empowering them to speak out against similar violations of human rights around the world today.
