Over the weekend, the social media exploded with a report from Kyodo News, the largest Japanese news wire agency, showing newly discovered evidence for Japanese government’s involvement in recruiting the military sex slaves, the so-called “Comfort Women.”

Kyodo News report: Wartime documents shed light on government role in recruiting comfort women

This isn’t the first, nor the only glaring evidence linking the Japanese government to the forcible recruitment of the so-called “Comfort Women.”

Even more important aspect of this saga is that however the women ended up in a “comfort station,” the way they were controlled and raped repeatedly (without freedom to choose where to live, move, refuse to provide service, quit or return home, and how they were considered as commodity/tool or public toilet) defines them as sex slaves.

Also, the way they were transported via military vehicles, trains and ships under the surveillnace and control of the military, in order to meet the sexual demands of the Japanese troops throughout Asia Pacific (in some 20 countries) makes it the largest case of government-led human trafficking in the 20th century.

The Japanese government must answer and acknowledge the responsibility for this war crime.  The victims and the supporters are waiting for Japan to act in good conscience.  The time is running out.
