Since the early 1990s, victims from Asian countries and their supporters and civic organizations came together and launched the Asian Solidarity Conference where the victims spoke out in unison to demand a resolution of the issue by the perpetrator government: Japan. The Japanese government has since issued the Kono Statement, established Asian Women’s Fund, and more recently, struck an agreement with the South Korean government (2015 Japan-South Korea Agreement), none of which reflected any of the following demands. With the old age of the victims, time is running out for Japan to resolve this egregious war crime before all the survivors pass away.
1. Admission of guilt: Admit the military sexual slavery system as a war crime
2. Disclosure: Disclose official documents held by the Japanese government
3. Apology: Deliver an official apology
4. Reparations: Pay legal reparations to survivors
5. Punishment: Punish war criminals responsible for the system
6. Education: Record the sexual slavery system in history textbooks
7. Commemoration: Erect memorial monuments and build archives
