To further boost 93-year-old Lee Yong-soo’s campaign for a public hearing and trial at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding Japan’s responsibility for crimes committed against Comfort Women, we have set up a new petition at change.org/ComfortWomenPetitionICJ [https://www.change.org/p/petition-to-japan-and-south-korea-take-comfort-women-issues-to-the-international-court-of-justice]
This petition links back to the Open Letter endorsed by 35 individuals and organizations and the initial Google petition signed by 280+ individuals representing 19 countries [https://sites.google.com/view/openlettercomfortwomenicj/petition].
Earlier this year, Lee Yong-soo delivered a proposed Special Agreement [https://sites.google.com/view/openlettercomfortwomenicj/resources#h.ryvc8bytkap5] setting forth the issues for the ICJ to decide.
A determination by the ICJ, among other recourses, has been recommended by the International Commission of Jurists, the Special Rapporteur of the UN Human Rights Commission, and the 2000 Women’s International War Crimes Tribunal for the Trial of Japan’s Military Sexual Slavery (a non-binding people’s tribunal) (here, here, and here).
