Around 60 people gathered in front of the Peace Monument in Glendale on Saturday to pray for the souls of the recently passed Grandmas, as well as to wish for the healthy and long life of the remaining Grandmas.

We remembered the 11 Korean, 5 Filipino, 2 Chinese and 1 Taiwanese Grandmas and others who recently passed away and during the pandemic.

The attendees included Senator Anthony Portantino (https://youtu.be/wX9yU1nWqfk) and Glendale Mayor Daniel Brotsman (https://youtu.be/59f3IENWwW0), who gave heartfelt and moving speeches on the importance of protecting this history and educating it to our next generation. Community members from the Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino and local Glendale communities came together to pray and present flowers to the Grandmas.

Two students, Hannah and Lauren Hwang, performed a flute duet of Amazing Grace and a Korean traditional tune of Arirang. 3.1 Women’s Association’s choir sang a beautiful and moving song of prayer for the Grandmas.
