Dear friends,

We are very happy to share an important milestone in our collective work.
My new book, co-authored with Professor Jing Williams, Teaching Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Through Human Rights Education: The Case of the Japanese Military’s “Comfort Women”, is now published and available on Amazon.

This book uses the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a framework to help educators introduce the “comfort women” issue as a global human rights and conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) case study. It was written with teachers in mind—especially history, social studies, and human rights educators who seek accurate, accessible, and justice-centered materials for their classrooms.

Expanding high-quality educational resources has been one of CARE’s goals for many years. This publication represents another meaningful step toward making comfort women education available, responsible, and sustainable.

Upcoming CARE Scholarship Showcase – December 1, 2025

I also want to invite you to our third annual CARE Scholarship Showcase Webinar, which will take place on:

Students and faculty from Cal State Northridge, Loyola Marymount University, Vassar College, UCLA, San Francisco State University, and Sogang University in Korea will present their scholarship projects on the comfort women issue.

Teachers who participated in the 2025 History Teachers’ Study Tour will also attend to share their insights and discuss how they are incorporating the comfort women issue into their classrooms.

How you can support this work

Please help us by sharing both the Amazon link and the webinar registration link with:

History and social studies teachers, School administrators, Librarians, University faculty and studentsColleagues who care about human rights education

Even one introduction from you can help bring accurate teaching materials—and survivor-centered perspectives—into more classrooms.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support. None of this work would be possible without our community’s commitment and encouragement.
