[CARE] Join Us July 25: Glendale Comfort Women Day Commemoration

Dear friends and supporters,

Please join us in Glendale on Saturday, July 25, for the 15th Korean Comfort Women Day and 81st Liberation Day Commemoration.

We will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Glendale Peace Monument, where we will observe a moment of silence and present flowers in remembrance of the survivors and those who did not live to see justice.

Following the memorial gathering, we will move into the Glendale Central Library auditorium for the main program from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The program will be led by students from the Hwarang Youth Foundation and will include reflections, presentations, and performances. I will also give a brief presentation, “Comfort Women: Today and tomorrow,” on the current state of the movement and our responsibility to carry this history forward through education and remembrance.

This annual gathering is an important opportunity to honor the survivors, affirm the historical truth, and renew our shared commitment to education, remembrance, and justice.

오는 7월 25일 토요일, 글렌데일에서 열리는 제15회 위안부의 날 및 제81주년 광복절 기념 행사에 여러분을 초대합니다.

행사는 오후 5시 30분 글렌데일 평화의 소녀상 앞에서 시작됩니다. 참석자들과 함께 피해 생존자들과 끝내 정의를 보지 못하고 세상을 떠난 분들을 기억하며 묵념하고 헌화하는 시간을 가질 예정입니다.

이후 글렌데일 중앙도서관 강당으로 이동해 오후 6시부터 7시까지 본 행사를 진행합니다.

이번 프로그램은 화랑 청소년 재단 학생들이 중심이 되어 발표와 공연 등을 준비하고 있으며, 저도 “Comfort Women: Today and tomorrow”라는 제목으로 현재 위안부 운동이 놓인 상황과 앞으로 교육과 기억을 통해 이 역사를 어떻게 이어가야 할 지에 대해 짧게 말씀드릴 예정입니다.
